The Laboratory of Clinical Psychology and Psychodiagnosis
The Laboratory is the successor of the laboratory developed by V.M.Bekhterev and his disciple and follower A.F.Lazursky for personality studies. Later on, already in the late 1950s the Laboratory was created anew by V.M.Bekhterevs disciple V.N.Myasishchev, and since that time it has been developing as the leading medical psychological laboratory of Russia.
Today the basic direction of research at the laboratory is the development of psychological diagnosis theory and methods aimed at solving the problems of neuro-mental adaptation and maladaptation, of clinical diagnosis (including differential diagnosis) and examination, of treatment, rehabilitation and improvement of the quality of life of
patients.
Psychodiagnostical studies are being carried out in different fields of clinical and preventive medicine - psychiatry, psychotherapy, addictions, neurology, clinic of psychosomatic and somatomental disorders as well as in the field of psychoprophylaxis and psychohygiene, medical pedagogy and vocational
selection.
The Laboratory uses a large number of psychodiagnostical testing and non-standardized methods directed at studying the intellectual activity, emotional condition, individual psychological features and social psychological aspects of personality functioning as well as at studying the system of attitudes towards the disease and the internal picture of the disease in patients with somatic and neuro-mental disorders. Among these methods are adapted and modified well known techniques developed by foreign scientists, original developments of the Laboratorys scientists including computer psychodiagnostical methods that implement the set in the computer practical experience gained by practical psychologists and function as expert psychodiagnostical and teaching systems.
One of the leading directions of scientific and practical work of the Laboratory is computer psychodiagnosis as a sphere of investigations aimed at creating essentially new psychodiagnostical instruments - computer psychodiagnostical techniques - that are being developed on the basis of knowledge engineering information technology enabling the scientists to set in the computer the knowledge and work experience gained by practical psychologists.
For 30 years the laboratory has been providing different training and upgrading programs in medical psychology and psychodiagnosis for psychologists and clinicians.
The Laboratorys scientists have been contributors to special literature with monographs, manuals, etc. that have become well known among their Russian and foreign colleagues. Besides, as co-authors of many documents issued by the Ministry of Public Health of Russia on medical psychology, for instance, of the first in Russia certification program as well as of the state standard in the specialty Clinical Psychology adopted by the Ministry of Education, they have taken part in organizing the delivery of different medico-psychological services in Russia.
The Laboratory is staffed with highly qualified specialists: medical psychologists, applied mathematicians and computer science experts who successfully combine in their work research, pedagogical and organizational activities.
