The St.Petersburg V.M.Bekhterev Psychoneurological
Research Institute
The
St.Petersburg Psychoneurological Research Institute was designed and
founded as a scientific practical and educational institution of the new
type in 1907 by the great Russian psychiatrist and neurologist Vladimir
Mikhailovich BEKHTEREV. Its main mission was to connect the knowledge of
the brain structure and functions with the clinic of human neuro-mental
disorders and psychology. In 1925 the Institute was named after its
founder.
Today the V.M.Bekhterev Institute is a unique, the only one of its kind,
scientific practical facility with special clinics and laboratories
comprehensively developing the issues of psychiatry, neurology,
neurosurgery, addictions, clinical psychology, psychotherapy and
rehabilitation of patients. In addition to research, for many decades the
Institute has been delivering personnel training. It offers programs
providing different level of training including post-graduate programs,
residency and one-year internships for medical doctors, residency for
clinical psychologists and a wide range of continuing education programs.
The V.M.Bekhterev Institute is a clinical base for the Department of
Psychology of St.Petersburg State University and for the St.Petersburg
Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education. The Institute is well known
abroad owing to its wide international connections; its scientists take
part in different scientific research programs, particularly, in the
programs designed by the Department of Mental Health of the World Health
Organization (WHO), the Institute being one of its regional Centers in
Russia.
